Welcome to the December Education News!
We are coming to the end of another busy term here - along with our visits and outreach programmes, we have had some very successful Language in Parliament Days and some updated resources have come on-line. Our thoughts are already turning towards 2017 when we are looking forward to more exciting visits, resources and events.
If you are receiving this and you feel there is another member of staff who would benefit from reading it, please pass it on, and encourage them to sign up to receive their own newsletter.
Bookings for April to June 2017

Both our Visits to the Parliament and Outreach@Your School programmes open for bookings on the 16th of January, so if you would like to have a session either at Holyrood or in your classroom in the summer term, get in touch with us to book your date.
Scottish Parliament Education and Skills Committee
Following on from the Education and Skills Committee surveys on the work of the SDS, the SFC, the SQA and Education Scotland that we mentioned in our Autumn newsletter, the teachers on the Professional Learning day in October had the chance to speak to Committee members on this issue. The Committee then used the information gathered in the session to inform their Committee meeting session with the Chief Executive of the SQA.
Teachers involved felt this was an excellent opportunity to make their views heard:
"Felt empowered that the committee was listening to the people at grassroots/chalkface."
"Good to see the committee taking advantage or our visit. Makes me feel valued as a professional."
We have a Professional Learning Day coming up in March, so sign up to find out more ways you and your students can be involved in telling the Parliament your views on the issues that matter to you.

Teaching about the Scottish Parliament
If you would like to refresh your own knowledge about the workings of the Scottish Parliament, come along to our professional learning opportunity at the Scottish Parliament on Wednesday 15th March, 2017, 10.00–15.00. Experience a day at Parliament and find out what’s happening.
We are also offering a 3 part course in Political Literacy between February and April 2017. This course is offered in partnership with Scotdec and will make use of the resources developed by Education Scotland. These twilight sessions will help you reflect on how we can support young people to develop as active global citizens.
Our timeline has been revamped and brought right up to date. It is now also compatible with tablets, mobile devices and ipads. Find out about the growth of the Parliament in Scotland from 1235 onwards.
Do you have students who are writing dissertations or carrying out research? The Scottish Parliament Information Centre prepare briefings and fact sheets, including infographics, to support parliamentary business. Many of these could be of interest to Sixth Year pupils doing independent research.
